An Israeli police officer has been arrested in connection with a fishing operation on the shore of the Palestinian town of Nablus.
Police spokeswoman Luba Samri said the arrest took place in the city of Nabi Saleh on Saturday.
Police spokeswoman Lula Samri: Manatees are being caught in a fishing net on the sea, she said.
She added that police were searching for the fishermen who took the fish to Nablu.
In December, Israel said it would open a “manatee research station” in the Israeli coastal city of Eilat, where it plans to establish a research institute to study the health and ecology of manatees in the coastal area.
